Latest updates...

~ emergent west michigan ~
After returning from the emergent ‘gathering’ in Santa Fe several weeks ago, I am reminded that this emergent thing is primarily a friendship. IF you receive this e-mail but have never joined us for any form of conversation, we would love to have you engage with us. I can’t emphasize that point enough; we would love to have you!

The following things are currently on the horizon for emergent west michigan:

Cooperative Conversation
Tuesday, Nov. 8 @ 5:30 p.m., Lighthouse Village
We’re beginning to envision a cooperative effort among missional churches within our area. This is a conversation that is only beginning. If you want to help shape this dream, please join us. [address: 1110 Monroe, just south of Leonard on the east side] For more information, see http://www.emergentwestmichigan.blogspot.com

West Michigan Monthly Conversation
Wednesday, Nov. 9 @ 10:30 a.m., the Bite
Part II – So, what are emergent churches or emergent village people for? John Raymond will help guide us through this conversation; we’ll continue to discuss and form theology that reflects the gospel and kingdom of God. [address: downtown Grand Rapids, n.w. corner of Pearl & Ottawa]

~ Uganda? Yes, we’ll also be treated to the presence of Justus Miwanda. He is the Executive Director of I.N. Network Uganda. He is an Anglican minister and works in areas of church planting and education – I.N. Uganda operates two schools with about 1000 students total and 40% have been orphaned by AIDS. Come and hear a bit of his story.

Night Gatherings
For those of you who want to engage but have day jobs, we are hoping for the development of a monthly or bi-monthly gathering in the near future. If you are interested in making this a reality, drop a note to Joel McClure at JMcClure@watersedge.tv

Traveling Musicians – Ryan & Holly Sharp
Saturday, Nov. 12 @ 7 p.m., Jenison
Ryan & Holly recently packed up their vehicle, and they are touring the States for the next year. Ryan is an edgy acoustic guitar singer/songwriter, and he’ll be performing on Saturday night in our living room. While this is an invite only evening, drop me an e-mail or phone call for your invitation. J Treat yourself to good food, good drinks, excellent music, and meeting new friends.

Emergent Looses a Friend
Many in the Emergent community were saddened to hear of the tragic death on Sunday of our friend, Kyle Lake. Kyle was the pastor of University Baptist Church in Waco, Texas, an author, and a great friend of Emergent. But, far more importantly, he was the husband of Jen, the father of three young children, and the friend of countless many. Jen's brother, Scott Gornto, is also part of the Emergent community. Pray for Kyle’s family as they struggle with this huge loss in their lives.

For questions or comments, please drop me a note.
Blessings.
